Description

The Winchester Cheyenne is a special commemorative lever-action carbine released by Winchester in 1977

Key Features

  • Models: Primarily built as a commemorative version of the Winchester Model 1894 chambered in .44-40 WCF (with about 11,225 units made), as well as a rare Model 9422 version chambered in .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle.
  • Design: Features a 20-inch barrel, a saddle ring, a crescent steel buttplate, and a distinctive gold-plated/washed receiver.
  • Art Work: The receiver and stock feature engravings and gold-inlaid medallions honoring the Great Plains Cheyenne and scenes of Native Americans on horseback.
  • Collectability: These carbines are popular among collectors, especially when sold unfired in their original boxes with paperwork.

Specifications

The Winchester Cheyenne commemorative carbine features 24-karat gold plating.

Specifications & Coverage: The 24-karat gold plating is applied to the receiver, lever, fore-end

cap, and barrel bands, Accents: The roll-marked "Cheyenne Carbine" lettering on the barrel and the commemorative medallion inlaid into the walnut stock are also finished with gold

washing & Application Technique: Winchester utilized a method often referred to as "gold washing" or fine gold electroplating to coat these components. While it uses pure 24k gold, the layer is incredibly thin and delicate.
